version 6.0 (Modified)
4D for Oracle can be used with either 4th Dimension or 4D Server. When used with 4D for Oracle, 4th Dimension enables you to create a database that can become a client of the Oracle database. Each user with a copy of the database can simultaneously connect to and use the Oracle database.
4D Server, enables you to create a multi-developer database application. When used with 4D for Oracle, 4th Dimension and 4D Server allow multiple developers to connect to an Oracle database. Although the clients are still connected to a server running 4th Dimension, the clients communicate directly with the Oracle server to display and modify data.
Location of the Preferences File
A special 4D folder/directory (located in your Preferences system folder on a Macintosh, or in the Windows directory under Windows) is used to store the Preferences files of all the 4D products. When used with 4th Dimension or 4D Client, 4D for Oracle looks for its Preferences file in this location. Under MacOS this file will be named ORAV6prf. Under Windows its name will be ORAV6PRF.RSR.
Note for V1.5 users: The name of the 4D for Oracle preferences file has been changed to allow for a concurrent usage of 4D for Oracle versions 1.5 and 6.0. Previously, under MacOS this file was named 4D for Oracle preferences and under Windows, 4DORACLE.PRF.
The 4D for Oracle Preferences file stores various pieces of information, such as the name and password used at the last connection. If 4D for Oracle does not find its Preferences file, a new one is created with the default values.
